About Hageland Dark Chocolate from Belgium

Previous Entry Hageland Dark Chocolate from Belgium Sep. 19th, 2009 @ 04:46 pm Next Entry
Last week I picked up a big 14-oz bar of dark chocolate from Belgium at Wal-Mart.
It's called "Hageland" (from a region of Flemish Belgium) and at $4.62 (including tax) it is just a bit more expensive than Hershey's "Special Dark".
The squares of chocolate are a bit thick, but the taste is very good.
The Hageland region of Belgium "borders the Antwerp Kempen to the North, the Limburg Kempen to the Northeast, Central Limburg and Haspengouw to the East, Wallonia to the South and the Green Belt to the West."
Their web page is here.

I picked one up too. Not bad. Did you try to go to their website? It's odd that it says it's a placeholder for your very own website.
Weird. I wonder if it's not a Chinese knock-off.

I did go to the website, and got that message--I think that it just means that the web-address is available. Perhaps they let the registration expire, or they never bought it.

Potassium

(Link)
I would love to try the dark chocolate as I was in Belgian many years ago and loved the chocolates. However, I am now on a potassium restricted diet and have heard that there is a lot of potassium in chocolate. Can you tell me how much is in 2 squares of the dark chocolate? Thanks

Go to your local WalMart. Ask to speak to a zone manager in the grocery section. Give him/her the UPC number from the label ( which is 0-40594-29442-3 ). Ask if they can check to see if the item still exists in the warehouse that supplies that store, and if they would be willing to order a *box* for you. The retail + sales tax for a box (12 bars) in Florida is about $60. This represents 10.5 pounds of Belgian Dark Chocolate (so don't let the $60 scare you too much). If they can get it for you, it will take about 4-10 days, and (because it does not have a shelf location) you will have to track down that zone manager again, when you come to pick it up. My store has done this for me several times already (thus far it's still available in the warehouse, and the expiry dates each time gets later and later).

Now, today I picked up a bar of Cachet 57% Dark Chocolate at Big Lots ($1.80/bar at this location). While examining the wrapper for the Cachet, something caught my attention. It had a note on the back that says "Made with renewable energy, ca 20% coming from out own solar panels." If you look closely at the wrapper from the Hageland, on the back and beneath the bar code, it says "Made with 100% renewable energy, ca 20% coming from our own solar panels."

hmmm ... is it possible that the Cachet (made by Kim's Chocolates, 3300 Tienen, Belgium) and the Hageland (imported by SCO Koladen, LLC, Hayward CA) are coming from the same factory ? The UPC for the Cachet is 0-40594-21476-6, note that the left most part is identical to the Hageland's UPC.

Hageland 14 oz dark chocolate bar

(Link)
I have been buying these chocolate bars from Walmart for a couple of years, and now, all of a sudden, they have stopped stocking them. I am so disappointed. I wish I knew how to get hold of some - I am having a bad day without my daily fix of the BEST chocolate I have found in the US. From reading past remarks on the blog, I read that their web site is "nearly ready" - I am wondering how much longer that will be?

Hageland at Walmart

(Link)
I am also a Hageland dark chocolate fan and have been purchasing it at Walmart. As the other folks have mentioned it is no longer available at Walmart. I spoke with manager and he told me that Walmart will no longer stock the large bars. He had no idea where they would be sold since Walmart was no longer carrying Hageland.

On the way out of the store I was visiting with the cashier and she told me that Dollar General often picked up items that Walmart dropped so when time permits I will go there to see if it is available and if it is not available I will see if they can order it so I can get my chocolate at a local store.

The reason I am on the internet tonight is to see if I can order Hageland from other retail outlets. At this point in time it doesn't appear that other retailers carry Hageland so I expect that Hageland Chocolate is made and sold expressely by and for Walmart.

Called the 800# on back of label - twice - they said they were re-designing the bar that is thinner and smaller but still a good value. Should be on Walmart shelves near the end of May 2012.

I am also an hageland fanatic, i was also very disappointed at Wal-mart dropping the product.
Has anyone found a place in the USA that carries this product? I need to buy a case! I only eat a square at a time, several times a day.

Re: dark and almonds chocolate

Well the good news is that Hageland is going to be sold again in Walmart. It appears to be a Walmart only item an it's being repackaged in thinner bars that are easier to bite. The price will be altered to reflect the smaller bars, but it appears that the price per ounce will be the same. They said that Walmart should have them by May. Yippee!

Hageland chocolate in Walmart

(Link)
Hello, I work for the company that produces and imports this chocolate for Wal-mart. If you've called us, I may have talked to you myself. I am happy to say that the Hageland chocolate has arrived from Belgium earlier this week and we have started shipping it out to the Wal-mart warehouses. I'm guessing it will take up to 2 weeks to cycle through and make it back on the shelves. The bars are in different packaging and will be shaped differently, but they will still say Hageland Premium Belgium chocolate on the front. It is the SAME chocolate as before, just a bit smaller and thinner. And yes, I've been told that the price is going to reflect the slightly smaller bar. Thank you for your love of this great chocolate. I'm a huge fan of it myself...I have a great job!!!

Fantastic News!!!

(Link)
The last bar of chocolate has been gone for weeks now and I have tried every Walmart in East Texas with none anywhere!!! I am so happy that the chocolate will be back in the stores. I actually loved the larger/thicker bars, but will take it in the thinner version. Can't wait!!! I usually bought 3 or 4 bars at a time and had no idea that I would not be able to get any more when I ran out. So...I am very happy now. I love the quality of the chocolate and will not settle for anything less. Thank you for such a quality product at a reasonable price.

It is back on the shelves at Wal-mart

(Link)
Hi, It's the Hageland Chocolate lady again. I can confirm that the Hageland chocolate is now back on the shelves of Wal-mart as of today. The bar is a little smaller (so is the price), easier to bite into, different packaging, and a different shape. But, IT IS THE EXACT SAME CHOCOLATE AS BEFORE!!! The dark chocolate and the dark chocolate with almonds are now in 3904 stores across the country. So enjoy!

Hageland dark chocolate

I just hope that the new thinner bars are available where I live - way out in the desert region of central eastern Utah. I called the 800 number and was told that the thinner version of what I love would be available in May but that not ALL stores would be receiving shipments. I'm afraid I may have to order a case of it directly or else drive over 100 miles to get a several bars at a time. Find something great and this is the way it always is!

Walmart does not care about their customers

(Link)
Do you guys know why my family, my friends and I hate Walmart? Because Wal-Mart sells what they want to sell, not caring about the preference of customers. Nothing in Walmart is good quality. Buy an electro-electronic and you will have problems. Buy a garment or shoes, you're going to have disappointment and annoyance. The start, when we use the cart to put our purchases, it never works well, it needs maintenance to work fine, but Walmart always neglects the maintenance of these carts. What we can see are abandoned carts in the corridors by dissatisfied customers.
We should not forget that Walmart employees are always grumpy and they do not dispense a courteous treatment to customers.
People, please buy your chocolates at Target stores, there you are treated with respect and consideration. Forget Walmart.

Hageland Chocolate

So much for the restocking of Hageland Chocolates. We love this chocolate, I am 68 and my husband is 76. It is our favorite. Walmart is ALWAYS discontinuing things. When ever they get something in that is good for you and healthy, they discontinue it. I get so irked by their way of doing business. Sam would roll over in his grave. He was always for the customer. They do not care about the people who by at their stores. I may just start shopping elsewhere.

Re: Hageland Chocolate

I suggest that you try shopping at Big Lots.
During the past few months they have stocked several imported chocolate bars of very good quality, especially dark chocolate, which I favor.

The "Fresh Finds" branded chocolate was very good, and also the Chocolate Santander, Bistro, and Cachet brands.

I did NOT like the Dove branded dark chocolate that they were selling, though.
