Gatti-Ward Trilogy.... Jul. 17th, 2009 @ 09:59 pm
[info]will_sample
....was absolutely magnificent tonight, on HBO. It's been almost 6 years since the last fight between these two men who became best friends through 30 rounds of trying to kill one another.

Unfortunately for fight fans, Arturo Gatti was murdered last weekend in Brazil; his legacy as a great fighter is forever linked to Mickey Ward, who has said it feels as though he has lost his brother.

I love boxing; it is brutal, direct, masculine, and timeless; a great fight of 20 years ago stands up to the test of time-- and the best fights create legacies and careers for the men who step inside the ring that will outlast their own lifetimes.

The Gatti-Ward trilogy featured everything *except* a knockout. 3 knockdowns; a majority decision, a split decision, and a unanimous decision; cuts in the early rounds managed expertly by corner men; bloody cuts in late rounds that threatened fighters ahead on the scorecards; blazing jabs and brutal hooks to the body; a broken hand that was flung without fear or hesitation at the other man for *6* rounds-- and that was the victor's hand!

I am immensely pleased that my son loves boxing too; he may only be a little pipsqueak now, but he will stop playing to watch it with Dad. I hope that lasts-- after all, some things are timeless: Gatti-Ward and Fathers & Sons.

Obama Promises versus "The Party of No" & "We can't do nothing" Jul. 17th, 2009 @ 08:48 pm
[info]melvin_udall
Here we have some of Obama's promises about the Stimulus plan and jobs. I heard this on Mark Levin's show and couldn't wait to post it. Here is Obama versus Obama.

Somewhere in there appears to be an outright lie. It's in his own words.

Doing "Something" vs Doing "Nothing"
"A few bloggers have been looking around and some (including economist Greg Mankiw) have found a graph used by the Administration to sell the stimulus plan back in January. It shows their projection of the unemployment rate with and without the stimulus...but these bloggers have now added the actual unemployment data in red"
Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
"Of course, it's early. Perhaps the stimulus has 'saved' some jobs (especially public sector jobs). As I wrote when the stimulus was first passed, it will be impossible to measure. The exact cost to our grandchildren in future debt is also impossible to measure. But based on what the Administration promised with this graph, I'd say critics have reason to complain.
Government spent a lot of money doing 'something'…but it may have created uncertainties that brought us results worse than they predicted doing 'nothing' would achieve."

It would appear "the party of no" was right. It would appear "doing nothing" might have been the better plan (not that that was the plan).
Either way, it's certain that what Obama is saying simply isn't true at all. He has to know that. If they say now the "stimulus" is working, I do believe them. The problem is jobs and the welfare of Americans aren't the goals. Maybe soon people will wonder what the goals are.
I wonder what the Liberal defense of this is. I'm sure it's fascinating.

To the Moon, Alice Jul. 17th, 2009 @ 04:46 pm

The Moon We Forgot "Michael Crichton once wrote that if you had told a physicist in 1899 that within a hundred years humankind would, among other wonders (nukes, commercial airlines), "travel to the moon, and then lose interest ... the physicist would almost certainly pronounce you mad." In 2000, I quoted these lines expressing Crichton's incredulity at America's abandonment of the moon. It is now 2009 and the moon recedes ever further."

"After countless millennia of gazing and dreaming, we finally got off the ground at Kitty Hawk in 1903. Within 66 years, a nanosecond in human history, we'd landed on the moon. Then five more landings, 10 more moonwalkers, and, in the decades since, nothing."

"But look up from your BlackBerry one night. That is the moon. On it are exactly 12 sets of human footprints -- untouched, unchanged, abandoned. For the first time in history, the moon is not just a mystery and a muse, but a nightly rebuke."

To me it's another sign warning us of the death of the west. Consider the advancements since. With technology you could pull out of a junk yard today men stood on the Moon. Now they tell us it'll be a decade or more before we can go again? What prevents it today? Bureaucracy. Lethargy. Self-indulgence.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124779717982855785.html

Point to take from here... this bill would be UNREPEALABLE should it prove wrong.

Why would ANYONE make a bill unrepealable? Sounds like someone doesn't give a rat's ass if it actually hurts people. They just want their way.

Also, Im hearing disturbing things about private being illegalized by this in 5 years. It's radio and unconfirmed, but this combined really scares me.

The greatest Virtue is to follow Tao and Tao alone.
The Tao is elusive and intangible.
Oh, it is intangible and elusive, and yet within is image.
Oh, it is elusive and intangible, and yet within is form.
Oh, it is dim and dark, and yet within is essence.
This essence is very real, and therein lies faith.
From the very beginning until now its name has never been forgotten.
Thus I perceive the creation.
How do I know the ways of creation?
Because of this.

Obama tells Black America to quit whining and get their shit in order.... Jul. 16th, 2009 @ 10:57 pm

I have to admit, I didnt think Hussein had it in him....

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/17/us/politics/17obama.html?hp

This is pretty much a more polite and articulate version of the speech that Bill Cosby gave to the NAACP a few years back....you know, the Poundcake speech that got him dismissed as "insensitive" and "out of touch" by the ultra-PC Left that speaks on behalf of black people...

Now that it's the Black Messiah saying it, will Black America actually listen, or condemn the Messiah for not embracing the sophistication of Lil Wayne and not continuing the victim complex of Black America?.....Since we all know, anyone that doesnt put all the problems of Blacks on the White Man and demands that the White Man and the Gov't give more money to Blacks to solve all their problems is a sell out....that anyone who actually realizes that GOOD PARENTING and PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY are needed for Blacks to save themselves "just doesnt understand",what will they say now? What will happen to Sociology departments if they can no longer blame the White Man for oppressing black people?

Get Off Glenn Beck's Phone! Jul. 16th, 2009 @ 08:11 pm
[info]kharmii, posting in [info]conservatism
I've never listened to Glenn Beck before, -and have to admit he's somewhat of a colorful one, similiar to Savage- yet what he said in this video made a lot of sense:

I got this from a Yahoo News article: (source)

Beck's views were completely understandable, especially after I got a different point of view regarding socialized medicine, courtesy of [info]countrymember, who is from Australia. See, in Australia, they have a hybridized system: part privatized and part socialized medicine. Citizens are encouraged to purchase private health insurance because they get certain advantages that people on the gov. tab do not receive, (even though Labor leader Kevin Rudd is working towards removing the tax credits citizens get for purchasing private insurance, you know, to increase the power of Big Gov.) such as full coverage of medical bills, the ability to choose ones surgeon and the privilege to stay in a private hospital, as opposed to a public hospital, which can be overcrowded and delayed in providing necessary care.

Unfortunately, their medicare system is kind of like our education. IE: If you send your kid to a private school in the US, then you still have to pay taxes for the public school systems. Add to that, the system is always hurting for $$, resulting in the public hospitals having to charge astronomical rates for parking and cafeteria food for both patients and visitors. Since most people choose not to purchase private insurance, the private hospitals remain small and underfunded. A person who needs a certain procedure/surgery and is carrying private insurance will often find themselves on a waiting list to use public facilities, only because they aren't available in the private sector. Also, unless a citizen has both public and private insurance, there are still bills to be sent out. Citizens still have to pay a percentage of costs for every drug, surgery or procedure they receive.

I have to admit that Australia is doing one thing right: At least they are strict about deporting their illegal immigrants, so tax payers don't have to shoulder the burden of providing health care for non-citizens. I've heard horror stories about private insurances, such as it's impossible to sue them, yet one can't sue the government either. If we want a better system than we currently have, then surely relying on the gov. is not the answer.

If true... Jul. 16th, 2009 @ 01:39 pm
[info]melvin_udall
It's Not An Option
"It didn't take long to run into an 'uh-oh' moment when reading the House's 'health care for all Americans' bill. Right there on Page 16 is a provision making individual private medical insurance illegal.
When we first saw the paragraph Tuesday, just after the 1,018-page document was released, we thought we surely must be misreading it. So we sought help from the House Ways and Means Committee.
It turns out we were right: The provision would indeed outlaw individual private coverage. Under the Orwellian header of 'Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage,' the 'Limitation On New Enrollment' section of the bill clearly states:
'Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day' of the year the legislation becomes law.
So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised — with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won't be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers."
___
If true I really don't understand how anyone not a fanatic would still associate themselves with the Democrat Party. How many lies are acceptable in pursuit of the agenda of near total government control of our lives?

Edit: Apparently the blue dog Democrats are trying to maintain some sanity with this clusterfuck. Gods bless them for their efforts.

Man, this guy is WAY too serious! There must be something wrong with him.

If you love the Internal Revenue Service ...
___
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

That is the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution; it is 30 words in length. The 16th Amendment has spawned an incomprehensible (to most) tax code that is 61,000 pages at last count.

President Obama is attempting to stampede through Congress two bills that will create two more government bureaucracies on a scale and intrusiveness of the I.R.S.

Waxman-Markey (H.R. 2998) is 1,428 pages (2.19 MB) in its current form.

How many pages of federal regulations do you think it will spawn?

The draft version entitled: A BILL -

To provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending, and for other purposes.

This as yet unnumbered Bill is 850 pages in its draft form (without $ ornaments).

How many pages of federal regulations do you think this bill will spawn?

How can any American consider himself to be free when it takes 1,428 and 850 pages respectively to describe the government's new controls over him?

How free are you when the government controls your cooling, heat, light, travel & wellbeing?

The Bill of rights, The Constitution and all subsequent Amendments are only 18 pages (7,652 words).

Do you really want two more I.R.S.'s intruding into every aspect of your life?

Don't forget that there are likely to be Czars and an I.R.S. style bureaucracy for each one.

Count on it, if these monstrosities are not stopped.

But meh. This won't impact us that much. And who these days really gives a crap about the world their kids will live in. Certainly not me. I haven't had any kids. That's their problem. The author needs to calm down.

Military resister wins battle with U.S. Gov't. Jul. 16th, 2009 @ 02:22 am
[info]bonanno, posting in [info]conservatism

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=104009

A U.S. Army Reserve major from Florida scheduled to report for deployment to Afghanistan within days has had his military orders revoked after arguing he should not be required to serve under a president who has not proven his eligibility for office.

His attorney, Orly Taitz, confirmed to WND the military has rescinded his impending deployment orders.

"We won! We won before we even arrived," she said with excitement. "It means that the military has nothing to show for Obama. It means that the military has directly responded by saying Obama is illegitimate – and they cannot fight it. Therefore, they are revoking the order!"

She continued, "They just said, 'Order revoked.' No explanation. No reasons – just revoked."

A hearing on the questions raised by Maj. Stefan Frederick Cook, an engineer who told WND he wants to serve his country in Afghanistan, was scheduled for July 16 at 9:30 a.m.

Join the petition campaign to make President Obama reveal his long-form, hospital-generated birth certificate!

"As an officer in the armed forces of the United States, it is [my] duty to gain clarification on any order we may believe illegal. With that said, if President Obama is found not to be a 'natural-born citizen,' he is not eligible to be commander-in-chief," he told WND only hours after the case was filed.

"[Then] any order coming out of the presidency or his chain of command is illegal. Should I deploy, I would essentially be following an illegal [order]. If I happened to be captured by the enemy in a foreign land, I would not be privy to the Geneva Convention protections," he said.

The order for the hearing in the federal court for the Middle District of Georgia from U.S. District Judge Clay D. Land said the hearing on the request for a temporary restraining order would be held Thursday.

Cook said without a legitimate president as commander-in-chief, members of the U.S. military in overseas actions could be determined to be "war criminals and subject to prosecution."

He said the vast array of information about Obama that is not available to the public confirms to him "something is amiss."

"That and the fact the individual who is occupying the White House has not been entirely truthful with anybody," he said. "Every time anyone has made an inquiry, it has been either cast aside, it has been maligned, it has been laughed at or just dismissed summarily without further investigation.

"You know what. It would be so simple to solve. Just produce the long-form document, certificate of live birth," he said.

Cook said he was scheduled to report for duty tomorrow, on July 15, to deploy to Afghanistan as part of President Obama's plan to increase pressure of insurgent forces there.

He told WND he would be prepared for a backlash against him as a military officer, since members of the military swear to uphold and follow their orders. However, he noted that following an illegal order would be just as bad as failing to follow a legal order.

Before news of the orders being revoked were reported, MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann tonight called Cook a "jackass" and Taitz a "conwoman," as he labeled both of them the "worst persons in the world." He flayed the soldier as "an embarrassment to all those who have served without cowardice."

Named as defendants in the case are Col. Wanda Good, Col. Thomas Macdonald, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Obama, described as "de facto president of the United States."

According to the court filing, Cook affirmed when he joined the military, he took the following oath: "I, Stefan Frederick Cook, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the president of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

According to the claim, "Plaintiff submits that it is implicit though not expressly stated that an officer is and should be subject to court-martial, because he will be derelict in the performance of his duties, if he does not inquire as to the lawfulness, the legality, the legitimacy of the orders which he has received, whether those orders are specific or general."

The military courts offer no option for raising the question, so he turned to civilian courts to consider "a question of paramount constitutional and legal importance: the validity of the chain of command under a president whose election, eligibility, and constitutional status appear open to serious question."

"Barack Hussein Obama, in order to prove his constitutional eligibility to serve as president, basically needs only produce a single unique historical document for the Plaintiff’s inspection and authentication: namely, the 'long-form' birth certificate which will confirm whether Barack Hussein Obama was in fact born to parents who were both citizens of the United States in Honolulu, Hawaii, in or about 1961," explains the complaint.

Taitz said she will attend the hearing to amend the temporary restraining order to an injunction because more members of the military have joined the cause.

"We are going to be asking for release of Obama's records because now this completely undermines the military. It revoked this order, but it can come up with another order tomorrow. It can come up with orders for other people," she said. "Am I going to be flying around the country 1,000 times and paying the fees every time they issue an order?"

Taitz said the issue "must be resolved immediately," and she will continue working to ensure Obama proves he is eligible for office.

"We're going to be asking the judge to issue an order for Obama to provide his vital records to show he is legitimately president," she said. "We're going to say, we have orders every day, and we'll have revocations every day. This issue has to be decided."

She said there cannot be any harm to the president if he is legitimately holding office.

"If he is legitimate, then his vital records will prove it," Taitz said. "If he is illegitimate, then he should not have been there in the first place."

Asked what this decision means for every other serviceman who objects to deployment under a president who has not proven he is eligible for office, Taitz responded:

"Now, we can have each and every member of the military – each and every enlistee and officer – file something similar saying 'I will not take orders until Obama is legitimately vetted.'"

Multiple questions have been raised about what that would mean to the 2008 election, to the orders and laws Obama has signed and other issues, including whether he then is a valid commander-in-chief of the military.

Do you think that the President was born in Hawaii, or are the far-right conspiracists right? Does it even matter? Should people who have lived in the United States for 35 years --  regardless of birthplace -- be allowed to be President of the United States? Should the President be forced to produce or release his original birth certificate?

If you watched Dirty Sexy Money you may be interested to know ABC is about to do the final episode dump for the canceled series. Episodes will go where they dumped the final episodes of the exceptional wrongly abandoned series, Pushing Daisies, at 10PM Saturdays. DSM was an okay show, but poorly utilized a fine cast, I thought. If you weren't watching there's really no need to now. Pushing Daisies on the other hand was fantastic. Seamstress Guild Party in Honor of Terry Pratchett Jul. 15th, 2009 @ 12:20 pm

I just sent this out - post it where ever you wish - Mrs. Palm

Not A Needle Among 'Em

The Seamstress Guild is a loose affiliation of women and men who come
together for a variety of reasons. Our official purpose (whenever the Watch is making inquiries) is to prepare for the Seamstress Guild Party in honor of Mr. Terry Pratchett which is to be the highlight of the North American Discworld Convention's first night.

On the glorious night in question, the Grand Ballroom will be transformed into the Seamstress Guild Hall. Ladies of the Guild and gentleman from the Men's Auxiliary will be hosting a grand reception that involves food, music, and a Discworld scavenger hunt, as well as the chance to meet the very flower of Discworld Society, such as it is, and be photographed for The Truth's Society Page. Prizes for best costumes worn that evening will be awarded by our Esteemed Patron, Mr Terry Pratchett.

Mr Pratchett has also arranged for a special gift for our attendees, which will remain a secret until the night in question....

NIL VOLVPTI, SINE LVCRE
- Seamstress Guild motto

This is to be the second party of it's kind organized by the Seamstress Guild, the first taking place at the San Jose WorldCon in 2002, where Mr. Pratchett, was the Guest of Honor. The entertainment went well into the wee hours. Our Patron had such a good time with our Guild members and guests that he has asked us to do it again (it being the party, of course - Mr Pratchett has thus far refused all other offers) and so began our preparations. We are now ready to host this next event and would be most pleased if you could join us, and him, on the night in question.

Please see the first link listed below this announcement for information on the convention.

The second link will take you to the Seamstress Guild discussion board, where the men and women of the guild are gathered to plan both the party and their costumes.

Respectfully Yours,

Mrs Palm
Party Maven, NADWCon

Please note: Tickets for the convention are limited to 900. At present, we have sold over 750. Those who wait too long to buy their tickets for this event will be disappointed.
